Hook & Press opened its debut location in late 2018 in a shared pop-up space in downtown Santa Barbara, working out of a shared offsite kitchen. With a commitment to hand-crafted donuts and seasonally inspired flavors, their product immediately stood out from the crowd: with long lines, early sellouts, and a loyal following since opening day, Hook & Press was quickly established as the most innovative donut shop on the Central Coast. Hook & Press was voted Best Donut Shop in Santa Barbara in The Santa Barbara Independent’s Annual Readers’ Poll in 2019, 2020, and 2021, and was named in both USA Today and Food Network on their lists of Best Restaurants in Santa Barbara.

Leo Tidwell Excavating Corporation (LTEC) has been a utilities contractor for the past 46 years. This includes substructure: (Plowing, trenching, excavating, directional boring, rodding, pulling, paving, conduit and cable placing, fiber placing and pulling and manhole placement).

Present markets for LTECH include all ‘dry’ utilities, specializing in underground telephone and power substructure placement. Customers include major companies (Verizon, SBC, AT&T, MCI, Sprint, Qwest, Williams Communications, PG&E, SCE, The Gas Company and Kiewit Pacific (Level3 Communications).

The opportunities for utility construction have been dynamic. Existing utility substructure is in need of upgrading, fiber optic is the choice of the future and new companies are entering the market; planning thousands of miles of conduit structure to keep up with the technology. LTEC sees this industry going forward and the demand for “turn-key” work is exceeding the capabilities of most contractors.

Since 1979 California Crosspoint High School (CCHS) has provided a comprehensive, university preparatory educational program. Notwithstanding humble beginnings and modest resources, CCHS students have attained national and international acclaim for their academic achievements, civic commitments and personal character.

Nor-Cal FDC collaborated with California Bank and Trust, and its affiliate Zions Bank National Association Boston (ZB N.A.), to structure a term loan for $7,299,750, with the aid of a California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank (IBank) loan guarantee. CCHS used the proceeds to purchase a tax-exempt private placement bond in support of the acquisition of a 100% owner-occupied former technical school building. “Nor-Cal was attracted to the loan because the school serves a lower income and recent immigrant population and provides an education equivalent to the more expensive private schools in the Bay Area”, states Byron Phillips, Director of Loan Production for Nor-Cal FDC. “Assisting CB&T in providing the opportunity for a well-regarded educational institution to own its facility was of primary importance to the mission of Nor-Cal.”
